Lappland

We landed in Kittila today and were met by Tiina and Seppo, who then drove us to Levi.
It was a spectacular day. Sparkling sun and snow and blue sky. Just magic.
Tiina and Seppo took us to the house they have rented. A very nice lockwood style home. Very warm and cosy. They then took us out to see the local snow hotel - literally dug into the snow and featured with ice cut from the frozen river. It was so impressive and surprisingly warm.
We had a hot chocolate before trying our skills with borrowed shoes and special skis for cross country skiing. These are quite a bit different to what we are used to. Apparently tomorrow we are going on a 13km trek! There are 100s of kilometres of special cross country lanes and people ski along them with kids in tow and for an evening 'walk' and so on. There was a constant traffic of people going by while we were there. It was amazing and very peaceful - just the sounds of birds in the air.
Anyway, enough of talk, here are some photos....

I found the arkenstone of Lappland!

The bridal suite - 40 couples have been married this year so far. The water bed is heated to a steady 28 degrees!

Its always Christmas in Lappland
Barry, Seppo, and Toto prepare for a walk - this is the house we are staying in.

This is a stop meet station along one of the cross country laneways.

A couple arrive with their kids.
Time for hot chocolate. Yuu can choose to add a spirit or three if you like!!!

We are going out tonight to try and capture the Aurora borealis. We have to wait until the right time. Its still light at the moment (8.30pm)
