Heidelberg, Geneva, and Annecy

We have been a few days without wifi so I couldn't post (I have roaming on my phone but my hotspot isn't working). So anyway, we have been visiting some new places and taken some rides on trains, buses, boats, and bikes.
The first journey, Nuremberg to Heidelberg, involved a train ride to Wurzberg, and then another train to Bad Freidrichshall, then another train to Heidelberg, and then we took a tram to Dosselheim where we had a lovely place awaiting us with one of the most organised airbnb yet. She had everything there, even chocolates and fizzy water for us to drink. Nice.

Heidelberg

This is another pretty town, that has a famous university that was founded in the 14th century. Susan was keen for us to see the University Prison. Back in the day, citizen complaints about carousing students led the university to open a Studentenkarzer, or Student Prison, where academic miscreants were kept off the streets for three days to four weeks at a time, and this became a rite of passage for many students. They used the candle soot and then paints to mark their place and the walls, floors and ceilings became covered in graffiti.
The students would immortalize their stint in the clink, with silhouettes of themselves, shields of honour, names and dates, comic strips of what they did and how they got there, and so on.

Susan and I thought the soldier in the top right could have been drawn by you Dad!
We walked along the streets of the old town many times and then the next day we hired the local city bikes and went for a boat cruise, then bike ride along the Neckar River.

Cycling along the river to the town of Hirschorn - Jeremy and I climbed right up to the tower of the castle in the background.

Geneva
We left Heidelberg, and went via Geneva to Annecy (tram from Dosselheim to Heidelberg Hbf, then train to Manheim, then another to Bassel, then another to Beil, then to Geneva, then a bus to Annecy).
Geneva was hot, busy, and wealthy. We had enough time to walk to the waterfront, stroll around a bit, have an ice cream, and a drink, and take some photos!

Annecy

Another very beautiful place with a gorgeous Vieille Ville (old town), with cobbled streets, winding canals and pastel-colored houses.
We arrived on Bastille day so the place was buzzing and we got to enjoy a spectacular fireworks show. The next day we went to the lake, wandered the streets, and ate baguettes! Magic!
I posted this on facebook. This was the first night and it was Bastille Day. Very busy and exciting in town.
