Legoland

Did you know that the name 'LEGO' is an abbreviation of the two Danish words "leg godt", meaning "play well".
I didn't until I came to Denmark. It turns out that the brand was invented back in the 1930s by a Danish carpenter (Ole Kirk Kristiansen) based in Billund, not far from where we are in Horsens. It has passed from father to son and is now owned by the carpenter's grandson. Along the way, they showcased models of buildings from their factory, and when this proved too popular to cope with, they decided to open an open air park made up of lego models, called Legoland in 1962. There are now 8 parks around the world.
In fact, the company also was responsible for the local airfield being turned into what is now the second biggest airport in Denmark, Billund Airport.
Impressive.
So anyway, we had been meaning to visit Legoland since April and finally went, without too much preconceived expectations, a week ago.
Wow. It certainly was impressive and I had no idea it was set out like a Disneyland with themed rides and everything.
So we had a LOT of fun!
Hopefully you will too, looking at the photos below :-)

In the mirror house. Very confusing.

A lego Frankenstein!

Some familiar buildings

there were random lego sparrows (squirrels, mice, parrots, etc.) on the signage around the park.

This is a model of Billund airport with moving planes and vehicles.

Even the trees were miniature  (Bonsai). It was immaculate.
