We have had two wonderful days in London walking around the suburbs. It's a different London to the one I saw three and a half years ago when it was a wintery London. Now there is greenery and flowers everywhere. We are staying in Paddington in a budget hotel that Lyn has labelled
'Dodgy bros faulty towers'. The beds are comfortable, the room is big, the shower is hot and strong and the location is fantastic. We are right outside Hyde Park.
We also have a broken bed (one of the legs fell off mine), curtains that won't close, squeaky floorboards above and below, a cupboard for a bathroom, 1 teaspoon, 3 forks and a steak knife, and a constant flow of water somewhere in the pipes (or walls) beside us. Yesterday we had a lady banging on our door telling us not to shower as water was pouring into the downstairs flat. We came home to find workmen had been in to spread a thick wad of black silicone around all the edges in the bathroom, a big wet patch on the floor and all the windows open.
Aahhh London. We love you.
So Lynnie and I have been walking walking walking. Yesterday we went next door to the beautiful Hyde Park and said hello to the squirrels. We went to the Orangery next to Kensington Palace for coffee and croissant with butter and jam. Very posh. We walked down Kensington High Street and the wee side street where Lyn used to work when she lived here. We discovered Holland Park and walked through this to Notting Hill and Portobello Road and then made our way back to the Hotel before our aching legs finally gave out.
Today we caught the train to Wimbleton where Lyn lived back in those days, and to Wimbleton Common, and the village. It was just magic. What a lovely place. We must have made a lot of noise because we didn't see any wombles.
Tomorrow we part ways. Lynnie is joining her friend Sal and heading off to Morocco. Meanwhile I shall be going to the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child play. Barry is coming over and we are going to catch up with Phil and Catie and hopefully Hannah, Elly and Sally, and the Coleman clan over the weekend.
So, on with the photos - just a sample of the 100s I took!
